Steeplechase is donating a portion of the sales of its new 2008 summer-release CD "Lookin' for Life" to flood relief efforts in Eastern Iowa, our home area. Every purchase of "Lookin' for Life" will help to bring a bit of hope and healing to our friends and neighbors following this unprecedented natural disaster.
Steeplechase was formed in January of 2003 and arose out of the ministry of the First Presbyterian Church near Ely, a rural church of 250 members located on an Iowa gravel road four miles southeast of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
Along with a number of congregation members – some of whom lost businesses and residences -- the recent floods and storms have also brought difficulty to band members. Here is what we know so far…..the main orchestral venue, and the musical theater venue, where Steeplechase flutist Joanne Chadima performs, have both been severely damaged. Steeplechase songwriter Rev. Bob David spent three days and nights bailing water out of his basement.
Along with all the damage to residences and places of employment, agricultural crops in the area have been stunted by the heavy rains. Up to 20% have been completely washed away by floodwaters – $3 billion in crop damage in our state. As agriculture drives the economy in this part of the country, thousands of people here will be feeling these losses long after media attention fades.
So with your CD purchase of "Lookin' for Life" below, you will be helping those who have lost so much here in Eastern Iowa. Plus, you can enjoy Steeplechase's uplifting, captivating style of contemporary Christian music.
The band dedicates the song "Carhartt Jesus" to all the good-hearted, hard-working men and women who have come from all over the country to give us a hand with recovery. And may the song "Dream for the World" remind all of us that hope is ours. Thank you!
OUR MUSIC
Reverend Bob David has a unique talent for writing music and lyrics based on scripture and Bible stories, as well as modern themes with great meaning. He brings each composition to the band and the group develops the arrangement together. Through our combined talents we share in music ministry with our church and with others. Song sounds range from easy listening to rock, country, pop, jazz, blues, Celtic and Latin.
